Good luck! 😀
Tiger's career make rate from 7'0" to 8'11" is 52.0%. What was his make rate from that distance on the back nine in the fourth round? |
I am a middle aged math nerd that sits behind a desk all day. It’s not as easy as it used to be to roll out of bed for an early tee time and have a spring in my step. It was taking way to long to get the engine running at full speed! 😃
So last year I got serious about strength and mobility as I got tired of always feeling “so-so”. I started working with a remote trainer at P4S golf and as a data nerd, you know I asked if I could get my hands on some of their data. They have worked with over 15 thousand golfers at every skill level and they are very data driven with all they do. I have been lucky to get my hands on a bunch of their data and their studies and it is an absolute goldmine of information!
They have a free fitness assessment you can go through… one interesting nugget from all that data is that the number 1 predictor of swing speed regression they see in their massive database of players is failing hip and shoulder mobility tests.
If you want to get serious about your golf or just your overall fitness in general, I can’t recommend them highly enough. I never thought I would want or need a trainer to help me with my fitness, but it has made a world of difference. I am now happy to say I am down 17 pounds from when I started, I am way stronger, and my mobility is so much better. I feel great. Not just when swinging a club, but all the time.
Check out the free assessment here.
I am thrilled to have P4S Golf as a sponsor of this newsletter. The sponsors keep this newsletter free for all of you, so a very special thank you to P4S Golf!

Scoring Averages by Hole Length
I often share details about how many strokes it will take you to get the ball in the hole from lots of different distance in the fairway, the rough, around the green, and on the green. I don’t often talk about what scoring looks like from the tee boxes on par 4s and par 5s too much.
A special thanks to one our readers, Thomas, for reaching out and asking me to share what that looks like. If there is something you want me to cover in a future issue, please feel free to reach out! Email me or submit ideas here.
Off to the Arccos database we go! (DATALOU15 saves 15%).
The table below is across many tens of millions of holes of golf. It represents the “average” situation. As you can imagine there are many factors that will make a given hole from a given distance play harder or easier (course difficulty, wind, temperature, rough height, green firmness, etc…).
The numbers below are great as a baseline to give you a general idea of what different skill level players are scoring on a given hole length.
