What is a PGA Tour Quality Shot?

Arccos Golf is about to launch a really cool feature called “PGA Tour Quality Shot”. (If you are not tracking your game yet, you should check out Arcoss. Use code DATALOU15 to save 15%).

The premise is very simple. If you hit a shot that is better (“finishes closer”) than at least half the shots hit on tour, you will get a little icon under your round after you play. Click that icon and you will see all of the “PGA Tour Quality Shots” that you hit in that round. For example, if you hit a 200 yard shot from the fairway and it finishes 2 feet from the hole, you just hit a shot that was better than 99% of shots hit on tour.

Here are a couple of examples I mocked up.

I mocked these up because I wanted to show some specific examples that help to demonstrate how this feature is going to provide a TON of value beyond just the “cool” factor. It will help players to understand and manage expectations.

The image on the left is a 125 yard shot from the fairway that was hit to 18 feet. This shot was better than 51% of shots hit on the PGA Tour from 125 yards in the fairway.

The image on the right is a 125 yard shot from the rough that was hit to 42 feet. This shot was better than 51% of shots hit on the PGA Tour from 125 yards in the rough.

How many times have you seen one of your ~7 handicap friends, with a wedge in their hand, hit it to 18’ish feet from 125’ish yards in the fairway and be mildly disappointed?

How about a 125’ish yard shot from the rough hit to 42’ish feet? Simply hitting it to 42 feet from 125 yards in the rough is BETTER than 51% of shots hit on tour. Let that sink in!

My Thoughts

These post round “PGA Tour Quality” highlights (that you can easily share by clicking the share button at the bottom of the screen), will really help to give perspective and drive home the fact you don’t need to hit everything inside 10 feet in order for it to be an exceptional shot.

I am confident that there will be many players that thought their shot was “just OK”, only to find out it was actually a PGA Tour quality shot.

I am excited about how this feature is going to help with managing expectations, which is SO IMPORTANT on the course.

See you next week!
